"So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together for good...” Romans 8:28a TPT
A while back I read a devotional by Alistair Begg on the book of Ruth. In it Begg equated our lives with a tapestry. From behind we see an indistinguishable web of knots and colors, yet from
the front we behold a beautiful work of art. Our lives, especially our trials, can feel chaotic and meaningless, when in reality they’re a masterpiece in the making in the hands of our Creator.
None of us this side of Heaven will ever know why certain things happened to us. Nor will we know how He weaved everything together for good or all the lives He touched through us. However, what we do know is that every step of faithful obedience is worth it, no matter how “small” it may seem to us. Each step is another thread in His remarkable tapestry.

I witnessed this first-hand at the women’s conference in South Bend. When I was initially told the topic would be unity, I thought I knew exactly what I would talk about, given this is one of my
passions. Actually, in my pride I thought it would be easy to come up with a Scripture passage and my talking points. Well, we all know what the Bible says comes after pride.
To say the following months were a wrestling match would be an understatement. What I assumed would be easy turned out to be the biggest struggle I’ve faced when preparing for a talk.
But God! He remained patiently faithful and eventually I had the ears (and patience!) to hear His message: read 2 Timothy. At first I didn’t fully understand why this book or why read it all, but my,
did God make it clear as we prepared. (Even since then He’s solidified it in multiple ways. I’m telling you, it’s awesome!)
This was all remarkable, but what was truly extraordinary is how He wove it all together during those 2 days.
For time purposes I knew I couldn't share all the verses I wanted, so I prayerfully considered which ones to omit. Well, wouldn’t you know it, each of my “omitted” verses was shared by someone else that weekend, either by one of the workshop presenters, the worship team or Tammi (the Women’s Ministry Director). As we each focused on unity, another theme arose, one Tammi and I discussed months prior in conjunction with the primary theme: disciple-making. What a beautiful tapestry!
As people redeemed by His precious blood, we attest to His eternal glory, power and plan. No longer are our lives futile.
Only God knows what would have happened if any of us had said no to what He assigned us for those 2 days. In His sovereignty He would have made sure His message was still proclaimed, but we definitely would have missed the amazing opportunity to be part of His plan. (I almost did, remember!)
This is part of what we celebrate when we reflect upon and rejoice in Jesus’ work on the Cross. As people redeemed by His precious blood, we attest to His eternal glory, power and plan. No longer are our lives futile. No longer is anything we do insignificant when given to the Lord for His good purposes.
It’s true, we won’t fully make sense of the threads of our lives this side of Heaven. But we do know our amazing God is weaving them all together as part of His great story. His beautiful
masterpiece. Hallelujah, what an awesome God we serve!
